Aunt Jemima Re-boot

Bed(bad) looks take hold

The images of Aunt Jemima and the non-existent “Mammie” images, use to embarrass me and scores of other young black girls in our day. There was a time when we wore bed caps and night scarves to protect our hair, that secret of how we looked stayed in the house. What is going on with black women that we have made our feminine mystery so public? Not sure but it wreaks of...I don't care. Most people will not understand that they are BED TIME styles…but will interpret them through a lens of the ghetto fabulous.

Let me tell you, these looks DO NOT farewell in the street, the store, the bank, or garage sale. Certain feminine mysteries should be kept at home!!  They are unattractive looks because it says…I don’t give a **** about how I look.  The scarves and bed caps are what they are, remove them before leaving the house. If you need to protect your hair, then by all means a pretty fashionable scarf worn in a fashionable way, will make a difference.

There are so many hats and scarves that can be worn nicely with a good pair of earrings… to just present yourself to the world as some kind of understatement will only do a disservice to you. Many people will not take you seriously for who you are and will treat you accordingly.

Here are some examples below:
