Dahia Al Kahina (688 - 705 AD ruled) She was born in the region of Mauritania in North Africa. Dahia was a defender against the Arab invaders in the region. It is suspected that she was of Hebrew origin. Arguments have taken place as to her race, but she was always describe as black by Arab writers. She was described by them as having, "dark skin, a mass of hair and huge eyes." She united various people throughout North Africa and for a while remained a great force to be reckoned with, until her defeat in 705 AD)
